Maliau Basin (EB-MB05) Itinerary: Day 1: SKY BRIDGE: KOTA KINABALU / MBSC / SKY BRIDGE / NIGHT DRIVE Depart overland from Kota Kinabalu to Maliau Basin via Keningau (approx. 155 km: 5 hours). Itinerary Day 1 Meet at hotel lobby and transfer to Kinabalu Park Headquarters (HQ), the journey will take approximately 2 hours, en-route passing by villages and a panoramic vista of the valleys of the Crocker Range. On arrival, register at the Kinabalu Park HQ and proceed to the Timpohon Gate and it's from here the ascent to Laban Rata resthouse begins. The trek will pass by different vegetation zones from Oak and Chestnut to mossy and eventually to alpine type of vegetations. Overnight at Laban Rata Resthouse OR similar. (Packed Lunch & Dinner) Day 2 Early morning ascent to the summit of Mount Kinabalu (4092.5m) above sea level. Upon reaching the summit ( Low's Peak ) an opportunity to take photographs on the highest point in South East Asia. In a clear weather, a spectacular sunrise awaits weary climbers. Retrace route back to Laban Rata resthouse for breakfast and onward descent to Timpohon gate where transport will take you to the Kinabalu Park HQ to collect your achievement certificate. Itinerary Day 1 Meet on arrival at Lahad Datu Airport (recommended BKI-LDU flight: MH3010 / 0700), and proceed to the office for registration and briefing. Depart two and half hour drive on gravel road to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge in the heart of Danum Valley, aptly named the "Lost World". Check in on arrival with an introduction on the various facilities available at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Lunch at the lodge. Slide presentation at the conference room after lunch. In the afternoon, proceed for an introduction to the forest through the "Nature Trail" and onwards to the "Canopy Walkway" (300m in length and 26m in height at the highest point) for a close-up observation of the rainforest. Return to the lodge for dinner and later proceed for the "Night Drive" in an open-top vehicle to search for nocturnal animals. Overnight at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Itinerary Day 1 0745 Meet at hotel lobby and proceed to Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia's Natural Heritage site. Journey will take approx. 2 hours passing by villages, paddy fields along mountainous roads that wind along the Crocker range. A brief stop over at Nabalu, a collection of native stalls selling fruits, vegetables, local produce and handicrafts. An opportunity to observe the local stall activities. 1000 Arrive at Kinabalu National Park, enjoy the cool and refreshing mountain air, if day is clear a majestic view of Mount Kinabalu, the highest mountain in South East Asia. Proceed for a guided walk along the nature trails with the park naturalist. While walking, listen to the sounds of the jungle and observe nature's plants, trees, orchids and butterflies. Kinabalu National Park boasts an estimated 4,500 species of plants which includes 1,500 species of orchids, 77 of which are endemic to Kinabalu.
