I also found staying on the tea plantation very interesting. Everyone was so friendly and helpful particularly Dominic who is a wonderful guide. The only problems we encountered was the lack of hot water at the two government hotels and having to tell Arthur that it was impossible to attempt the jungle walk without wellingtons (too much rain) even though he kept telling us that our trainers would be sufficient. Sabah has much natural beauty, kind and hospitable people and evidence of human endeavour in the range of development projects one sees around.
On the down side there is some evidence of human exploitation of foreign workers which if not checkd may contribute to communal instability and a considerable amount of polution of waterways especially near the towns. I dare say the Government is aware of these issues and working on them. As educators I do hope they recognise the value of education at all levels in helping resolve these. I was pleased to hear of the supportive and considerate work environment provided by E-Borneo.Com. I suspect that many of those working on construction projects are not so fortunate.”

The climb to the summit of Mount Kinabalu – in clear weather – was fantastic, we rejoiced every moment and Hanson, our guide was clever, helpful and pleasant in every way. Hadi, taking over in Sandakan, was the perfect guide for us: extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic and full of energy and high spirits. Much thanks to Hadi the stretch Sepilok – Gomantong Caves – Kinabantangan River – Lahad Datu became a succession of great experiences, giving us heaps of good sights, good memories and brilliant photos, but also new understanding of nature & wildlife vs. human activity. Saying goodbye to Hadi was like saying goodbye to a dear friend. In Danum Valley we were trecking in the greenery early and late, high and low and saw lots of extraordinary creatures. Throughout the whole tour weather was fine, mostly sun and just a few refreshing showers. So, many thanks to you for understanding our preferences and co-ordinating a wonderful tour of Sabah. There is a good chance we will go back to Borneo for more adventures, in which case we will contact you in advance.”
