The West-East North Borneo Trail is an adventurous but shorter trip similar to the East-West North Borneo Trail but taking you from the West Coast to the East Coast of the north of Borneo. The route offers scenic views of the mountain and visits to Poring Hot Springs and the Kinabalu National Park, which has been recognised and classified as Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site. Besides off-roading you will get to see the famous orang utans in Sepilok, in one of the world’s few orang utan rehabilitation centres. On a river-cruise down the Kinabatangan River, the biologically richest floodplain in the world you will search for proboscis monkeys, endemic to Borneo alone. Along the way you will get to see indigenous villages of the Dusun and Orang Sungai. A visit to the famous Danum Valley rounds the trip off: Danum is a virgin tropical jungle reserve with one of the world’s richest heritage of flora and fauna.

Day 1: 9 am: Kota Kinabalu to Poring Hot Springs, with stopover at Nabalu, and the Kinabalu National Park HQ in Kundasang; overnight hostel/chalet; L, D

Day 2: 8 am: long drive from Poring to Sepilok; overnight in Sepilok; B, L, D

Day 3: 9.30am: visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre; drive to Sukau, evening cruise on the Kinabatangan to see Proboscis monkeys; overnight in hostel/chalet; B, L, D

Day 4: 6.30 am: Sukau to Danum Valley; overnight at Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC) (hostel/chalet); B, L, D

Day 5: DVFC leisure day: jungle trekking and other activities; overnight DVFC; B, L, D
