General Information
This programme, which is
now currently promoted by the Malaysian Government as "Malaysia My
Second Home (MM2H) programme, is to cater for and encourage those at retirement age to spend
some of the winter months away from their home country in a warm and pleasant environment
where the cost of living is less then half what they are used to - and no heating bills!!
Stay here in
Borneo and at your leisure discover the rest of Malaysia; you will find the internal
airfares amazingly cheap and the basic cost of living equally so.
If
you fly here via Singapore, you will also have the chance to stopover in one of the
world's most accessible and enjoyable capital cities, before the short 55 minute hop
across the South China Sea to Kuching where you can start by visiting the town that Rajah
Brooke founded just over a hundred years ago.
Sarawak
is a fine multi-cultural country with over 20 distinct ethnic groups and equally divided
between Christian, Muslim and Animist beliefs. It is very rural and apart from the coastal
towns, which are modern and thriving (thanks to recent oil exploration), is largely
agricultural and it takes time to explore further inland.
We
are situated in the northern part of Sarawak and just half a mile from the coast on rising
ground below the Lambir Hills from where the cool breezes blow in the morning, followed by
the sea breeze in mid-afternoon.
