A trip taking you from sea level up into the cool heights of the foothills of Mount Kinabalu, over jungle and challenging roads, across the Crocker Range and to the heartland of the Murut community. On the way sea how local wine and coffee are made. This exciting trip also allows you to experience the life of the locals as you will be staying in the middle of a Dusun/Kadazan community. If you opt to add another day you stay in a traditional Murut house and participate in cultural activities such as traditional dances on the lansaran (a bamboo trampoline), and you can taste rice wine.

Itinerary

Day 1: 9 am: Kota Kinabalu to Poring Hot Springs; overnight in hostel/chalet; L, D

Day 2: 8 am: offroading from Poring to Tambunan; overnight at the Tambunan Village Resort Centre; B, L, D

Day 3: 8 am: drive from Tambunan to Tenom, visit of the Tenom Agricultural Centre; back over Kimanis to Kota Kinabalu; no accommodation incl.; B, L

5 days/4 nights – tour code EB-SC5

Itinerary

Day 1 & 2: as above

Day 3: 8 am: drive from Tambunan to Tenom, visit of the Tenom Agricultural Centre; continue to a Murut settlement and traditional activities; overnight in Murut house; B, L, D

Day 4: 8 am: from Tenom we continue over Kimanis to Klias to see proboscis monkeys and fireflies on an evening boat cruise in the mangroves; overnight in a chalet/hotel; B, L, D

Day 5: leisurely morning; back to Kota Kinabalu; no accommodation incl.; B, L

Optional

For both itineraries it is possible to add an exciting white water rafting trip starting with a train ride from Tenom, and finishing in Beaufort (near Kimanis / Klias)
