BRIEF DESCRIPTION
A rare overland Sabah Borneo Overland
Safari package, driving from Kota Kinabalu city in the West Coast of
Sabah all the way to the Borneo Rainforest Lodge near Lahad Datu in the
East Coast of Sabah enroute at the Kinabalu National Park, Poring Hot
Springs, Sukau Village, Kinabatangan River, Ox-Bow Lake, Gomantong
Caves, Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, and the Danum River.

ITINERARY
Day 1: ARRIVAL/KOTA KINABALU
- Arrival at Kota
Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA).
- Meet on arrival
and transfer to hotel.
- Overnight at a
city hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

Day 2: KOTA KINABALU/KINABALU NATIONAL PARK
- Depart from your
hotel at around 08:30 for a 2-hour drive into the Crocker Range.
- Enjoy superb
mountain views as you travel to the Kinabalu Park at about 1,500m above
sea level.
- Check into your
accommodation and after lunch, we shall explore one of the many trails
that lead through the tropical Montane Oak and Chestnut Forest.
- Overnight at
a Mountain Lodge near Kinabalu Park.

Day 3: KINABALU NATIONAL PARK/PORING HOT SPRING/SANDAKAN
- Drive to Poring
Hot Springs from Kinabalu National Park.
- Lowland
Dipterocarp Forest makes most of the vegetation at Poring and it is an
excellent place to view lowland birds and some mammals.
- There are
Japanese Baths where visitors can soak themselves and let the
invigorating sulfurous water stimulate the body.
- A shorter trek to
the canopy walkway for a bird's eye view of the Tropical Rainforest.
-- Proceed overland
to Sandakan and transfer to hotel.
- Overnight at
a city Hotel in Sandakan.

Day 4: SANDAKAN/SEPILOK/GOMANTONG CAVE/KINABATANGAN RIVER/SUKAU
- Meet at hotel
lobby and proceed to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre.
- Witness the
unique feeding of the Orang Utans.
- Enroute stop at
the Gomantong Cave.
- Trek to the Cave
entrance of Simud Hitam.
- Explore the
fascinating cave.
- Then, proceed to
Sukau Village, journey will take approximately 2 1/2 hours.
- On arrival, board
boat for a 5 minute transfer to the river lodge.
- After lunch,
board river boat for boat cruise along the Kinabatangan river to search
for the elusive Proboscis Monkeys and other wildlife.
- Return to the
lodge in the late evening.
- Dinner and
overnight at River Lodge in Sukau by the Kinabatangan River.

Day 5: KINABATANGAN RIVER/SUKAU/KELENANAP OX-BOW
- Depart for an
early morning visit to the ox-bow lake to search for birds and other
wildlife.
- Return to the
lodge for breakfast.
- Late afternoon,
proceed for a unique river cruise to search for the Proboscis Monkeys
and other wildlife.
- Overnight at
Sukau River Lodge.

Day 6: SUKAU/LAHAD DATU/DANUM/BORNEO
RAINFOREST LODGE
- After breakfast,
depart Sukau and proceed overland to Lahad Datu for lunch.
- Drive 83km
through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations
before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside Danum River on the
edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest.
- The Lodge is home
to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran
Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans.
- So far some 275
species of birds have been recorded in the area.
- Explore nature
trail and nearby river.
- In the evening a
slide show and if weather permits one can go spotlighting to view some
of the nocturnal animals.
- Overnight at
Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 7: BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE
- Early morning
birdwalk before breakfast.
- Spend the whole
day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an
escarpment with ancient burial coffins.
- Trek to waterfall
and dip in refreshing rock pools.
- Lunch at the
lodge.
- In the afternoon,
jungle walk through trails leading to canopy walkway.
- Overnight at
Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 8: DANUM/LAHAD DATU/KOTA KINABALU
- Morning Trek in
search of mammals and birds.
- Return to the
Centre for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu.
- Take the flight to Kota Kinabalu.
- Meet on arrival
at KKIA and transfer to hotel.
- Overnight at a
City hotel.

Day 9: KOTA KINABALU/DEPARTURE
- Free at own
leisure until pick-up time to the airport.
- Meet at hotel
lobby and transfer to KKIA.
- Departure from
Kota Kinabalu to next destination.
- END OF TOUR.
