The East-West North Borneo Trail is an adventurous trip taking you from the East Coast to the West Coast of Sabah. The trip allows you to discover Sabahs intriguing biodiversity, and the friendly interior people. This journey offers truly the best of North Borneo, from the coast to the forests, and you will be staying with Dusun/Kadazan and Murut people of the interior, and Orang Sungai on the Kinabatangan River that makes up for the biologically richest floodplain in the world. There are plenty of opportunities, especially in the Kinabatangan area, for watching wildlife such as the Proboscis monkeys, a curious creature endemic to Borneo, and the famous orang utans in Sepilok, in one of the worlds few orang utan rehabilitation centres. You will also visit Poring Hot Springs and the Kinabalu National Park, which has been recognised and classified as Malaysias first World Heritage Site. ItineraryDay 1: airport transfer to hotel in Kota Kinabalu; meet your tour guides and drivers; afternoon and evening at own disposition; overnight in hotel; no meals included Day 2: 9 am: visit of local markets and scenic drive to Kaiduan Valley, a hidden Dusun village; in the afternoon jungle trekking and bathing in clear jungle rivers; BBQ under the stars with local specialities, inclusive of the famous rice-wine of Sabah; overnight in a vast and lofty colonial-style farm-house; B, L, BBQ Day 3: early wake up and train ride through the Padas River Gorges to Tenom; visit Lagud Sebrang, Sabahs world famous agricultural centre; overnight hotel in Keningau; B, L, D Day 4: 8 am: long drive through Sabahs jungles along the boarder to Kalimantan; overnight in Labang, a small Murut settlement; overnight in the longhouse; B, L, D Day 5: 8 am: boat ride to Batu Punggul, a limestone outcrop towering 100 vertical meters over the jungle. The awe-inspiring pike can be climbed, and the caves can be explored; overnight in the longhouse of Labang, B; L, D Day 6: 8 am: continue the road to Tawau; overnight at Tawau Hills, B, L, BBQ Day 7: 9 am: drive to Sukau, a small Sungai village on the Kinabatangan River; evening cruise to see Proboscis monkeys; overnight at lodge; B, L, D Day 8: 6.30 am: oxbow lake excursions; rest of the day leisure activities: jungle trekking; visit of Gomantong, boat cruise; overnight at lodge; B, L, D Day 9: 6.30 am wake up; visit of Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre; drive to Poring Hot Springs; overnight in hostel/chalet; B, L, D Day 10: morning at leisure; afternoon back to Kota Kinabalu; no overnight included; B, L (Note: B=Breakfast; L=Lunch; D=Dinner) |
