Our thoughts remain with the individuals and families affected by the tragedy, as well as the firemen and rescuers who are still working profusely in NYC. As in so many countries, sentiment in faraway Borneo has been influenced profoundly, and expressions of sympathy and condolences have been forthcoming from many quarters. To be so far, and yet to be so inter-connected. In view of such unprecedented event, our e-newsletter this month comes to you in a much shorter format focussing mainly on the terror attacks in New York and Washington. Many citizens of the world perished from this attack including one Borneon from Sabah. The horror and fear is not only felt by the US but also by the whole world. Hence, September 11 (or "911" attack) is a world tragedy rather than just an American one. Please visit our special page on the dastardly act of violence, which includes local, regional and international reactions and news at the web address below: URL: http://www.e-borneo.com/insideinternet/specials/usa-attack/ At this juncture, the world is still pretty much in shock, clouded with uncertainties and anxieties over what will happen in the coming days, weeks, months. Similar feelings are also shared by Borneons as we ponder on the ramifications of a likely US retaliation and the start of a different kind of world war where the enemy is not defined by country but by activity. This is a war between good and evil, and between freedom and terrorism. Some of these concerns and comments have been actively posted at the Borneo Forum. URL: http://www.e-borneo.com/cgi-bin/wsmbb/wsmbb.cgi Although there is much anger and hatred, in times of trouble and uncertainty, prayer offers a beacon of hope. In the battle between good and evil, good will always prevail, regardlessof which religion or faith one belongs to. Our deepest regrets to those who looked at this issue wrongly in terms of religion. Whatever religion, race, colour or royalty a person may be, when cut, the blood is RED. We are all human beings living in the same planet we call Earth. September 11 was in hindsight, a cruel act on humanity, done onto us by our fellow human kind. In this regards, the true test for each of us is to be able to seek out love amidst hatred, mercy amidst justice, and forgiveness amidst bitterness. Feel free to share your feelings on this editorial, or any related subject, at feedback@e-borneo.com. Please note that for the purpose of interactivity, your name/nick and comments received may be published in our e-newsletters or on our website (Note: Rest assured that your email address and/or homepage will not be published unless requested).
