ABIM protests Philippine military action in Jolo
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama)
-- Twenty members of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) gathered outside the
Philippine Embassy here Tuesday to protest that country's military offensive in the south.
Abim President Ahmad Azam Abdul Rahman also handed over a memorandum to the Second
Secretary at the embassy Tess Daza.
Ahmad Azam said the dispute in the Southern Philippines could be resolved if the
Philippine Government allowed the Moros self determination.
He said the memorandum also supported the Malaysian Government's action to restrict the
entry of refugees from Jolo island into Malaysia following the offensive against the
separatist groups on the island.
He said the memorandum also urged the separatist groups to put a stop to their kidnapping
activities and free all the hostages they were holding.
Among the 17 hostages still held by the group on Jolo island are three Malaysians -
Manager of Pandanan Semporna Island Resort, Mohamad Noh Sulaiman, diving coach Joe Joseph
Jongkinoh and contractor Kan Wei Chong who were snatched from Pulau Pandanan on Sept 10.
It is the third such memorandum to the Philippine Embassy. The first one was on Thursday
by the Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma) and the second was delivered yesterday by
PAS Youth.
