Malacañang
to create council for Schilling's release
MALACAÑANG (ABS-CBN) - The Philippine government has flatly
rejected an Abu Sayyaf demand requiring five foreign nations to negotiate along with
Philippine negotiators in exchange for the release of Jeffrey Craig Edwards Schilling who
was abducted on Monday by the extremist group.
As this developed, Malacañang announced that the Cabinet
Cluster E is looking into the possibility of creating a local Peace and Order Council that
will negotiate for the release of Schilling.
Executive Secretary Ronaldo Zamora announced on Thursday that
Malacañang will not allow Libya, Iraq, North Korea, China, and the United States to
negotiate with the bandits for Schilling's immediate release, even as he stressed that the
latest abduction is purely an internal problem which does not need any involvement from
other foreign governments.
"This Sipadan hostages were taken outside of the country.
This case (Schilling's abduction) is purely internal. This is purely a police matter and I
don't think we should involve any other country," Zamora said in an interview over
dzMM.
