SOLON WANTS AVENTAJADO OUT ZAMBOANGA CITY, (ABS-CBN) - Basilan representative Gerry
Salapuddin blames the government for the prolonged hostage crisis with the Abu Sayyaf in
Jolo, Sulu.
In the midst of another Abu Sayyaf demand for the government
to change its emissary, the solon said Malacañang elevated the Muslim extremists' status
by sending a cabinet member, presidential adviser on flagship projects Robert Aventajado,
as chief negotiator.
Salapuddin said Malacañang's "kid-glove" treatment
of the bandit group has made them a national problem.
With this, Salapuddin suggested that negotiations with the Abu
Sayyaf should be left with lower-ranking negotiator, Sulu governor Abdusakur Tan.
In reaction to this, Aventajado said he accepts the suggestion
but said Salapuddin should "look at historical facts" before making such
statement.
